The Power Of Social Networking
Why do you create profiles left and right? From Facebook to Twitter, from MySpace to LinkedIn; there is a plethora of similar looking websites out there (similar because they help us connect with one another) that after creating our nth profile, we stop to think about the sense of it all. What is the power of social networking and what are we to gain from it?
A lot of people would quickly dismiss it as just a waste of time, and yet they themselves have their own profiles on at least two of the top social media websites. Everybody’s on Facebook or Twitter nowadays that often generalizing the populace on the matters of social networking is already a safe thing to do. But I amĀ digressingĀ a bit.
If you’re a regular person, what can you get from it? Relationships for one thing. After all it is all about our relationships with our family, our friends, colleagues, and there are also those people who we just consider as acquaintances and yet they are worthy of their own places in our friends list. But it does not matter it is simply a quick way of looking at the relationships we have with other people and how quick and easy it is to connect to them and keep them updated about our lives.
It is also all about the status updates. Sometimes it helps when we tell the world what are the latest happenings in our lives. It can be as mundane as announcing to the world that you had just taken out the trash and telling them how much you hate it, to something a bit more exciting like your winning an award or the lottery perhaps. But maybe not the latter because there are some info that you just should not release to the world.
There are probably more than a hundred and one reasons why all your profiles are worth more than just having another web page some place with your profile picture and personal information on them. The power of social networking cannot be denied. You either embrace it and stay connected with everyone else or you choose to ignore it and leave a less interrupted life (no interruptions from updates, email updates, and dozens of other updates even from people you don’t know personally). Have it your way, as they always say.
